The medical board at Monaghan General Hospital has refused to participate in a proposed forum to examine how services might be restored at the hospital.

The medical board at Monaghan General Hospital has refused to participate in a proposed forum to examine how services might be restored at the hospital.

The move effectively scuppers the forum, which was the latest in a string of attempts to get emergency and maternity services returned to the hospital.

Paul Robinson, the chief executive of the Northern Eastern Health Board, admitted that the forum will not go ahead without the support of the medical board in Monaghan, but said the NEHB will consider the situation further in the coming days.
