The board of Eircom is expected to meet today to discuss the rival bids for the company's fixed line business.

It is understood Eircom is anxious that Tony O' Reilly's Valentia consortium increase their bid to rival that of eIsland.

Valentia also has the support of the employee share option trust.

Eircom bosses are understood to be seeking legal advice on the issue of their responsibility to get the best possible price for shareholders.
