David Beckham claims he spurned offers from Italy and England to take on the “biggest challenge” by moving to America.
The former England captain will leave Real Madrid for Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer this summer in a lucrative move across the Atlantic.
Beckham, 32, revealed he had several offers to stay in Europe but decided the challenge of playing in MLS was most appealing.
“I had offers from two big clubs in Italy and offers from clubs in England but I just felt it was the right time to pack up and leave,” he told BBC Radio Five Live.
“I was honoured to have played for Manchester United for so many years and obviously Real Madrid for four years.
“But I wanted a different challenge and to me the biggest challenge was going to America and playing in the MLS and living a different lifestyle. I’m looking forward to it,” he said.
