Security is expected to be tight for the Taoiseach’s appearance at the Mahon Tribunal tomorrow after his former partner was heckled as she left the inquiry today.
Stylist Celia Larkin had concluded her evidence and was leaving the Tribunal building at Dublin Castle with her lawyer when a man suddenly walked behind her and began shouting abuse.
Ms Larkin, who had sat in the witness box for more than four hours, did not flinch and walked past photographers and TV cameras.
One of four Garda officers who had been on point duty at the Tribunal later spoke with the unidentified man and he stopped the heckling.
The heckler, who was dressed in a suit, had been sitting in the public gallery in the Tribunal for Ms Larkin’s testimony.
Mr Ahern is expected to be driven into Dublin Castle in his state car tomorrow morning shortly before he is due to give evidence at 10.30am.
Former Taoiseach Charles Haughey was jeered by protestors when he appeared at public sittings of the McCracken Tribunal in 2000 to explain substantial bribes from businessmen.
The Mahon Tribunal, which is investigating allegations of planning corruption, is currently probing the circumstances surrounding a commercial retail development in West Dublin.
