The outbreak of the winter vomiting virus at Dublin’s Beaumont hospital is now affecting more than 70 patients following the confirmation of 18 new cases over the weekend.

All elective surgical and medical procedures have been postponed and a hospital spokesman said it will inevitably take a number of weeks before the outbreak can be contained.

Restrictions on visiting are still in place.
