Cork City supporters will be trying to spook Nantes into submission at this evening’s sell-out Intertoto Cup quarter-final return leg at Turner’s Cross (7pm).
City fans will be handed cut-out masks of Pat Dolan as they enter the grounds this evening and the idea is that the supporters put these cardborad cut-outs up to their faces when the teams come out just before 7pm this evening, the
reports. The gimmick is all part of Cork City’s bid to win the biggest match in the club’s history. They need to win 2-0 to win through to a semi-final spot against FC Roda of Holland in midweek.
Cork are 3-1 down from the first leg at the Stade de la Beaujoire last Sunday but that away goal from Neale Fenn leaves City with hope.
The Pat Dolan mask idea is the brainchild of City’s fanzine FourFourTwo while match-day partners, Red FM and chief executive Henry Condon will have green placards with the magical scoreline of 2-0 on seats inside the ground.
It will all add to the colour, spectacle and sense of occasion.
For the second home match in a row, Cork will gross gate receipts in excess of €80,000 as their Intertoto Cup saga continues to draw sell-out crowds on Leeside.
Cork are 6/1 with local bookmakers Liam Cashman’s and 8/1 with Paddy Powers to qualify for the semi-finals.
