Four people remain in a critical condition in hospital following yesterday's explosion at a tyre recycling factory in Co Louth.

Four people remain in a critical condition in hospital following yesterday's explosion at a tyre recycling factory in Co Louth.

It happened at 9.30am yesterday at the Crumb Rubber factory near Dromiskin.

It is understood a fire had broken out at the factory and the explosion occurred as firefighters tried to bring it under control.

Two fire-fighters and two workers are being treated at a specialist burns unit in St James's Hospital in Dublin.

Three other people are in a stable condition in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
