Rovers hoping for repeat

Shamrock Rovers will be looking for a repeat performance when they visit United Park to face Paul Doolin's Drogheda United tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.

The Hoops beat United 3-0 in the League Cup earlier this month and a win would push the Hoops back into the top five and within four points of second-placed Drogheda.

Paul Doolin fielded a weakened side for the Cup game but will still be missing some key players as Jason Gavin, Richie Baker, Dan Connor, Shane Barrett, Andrew Hageman and Declan O'Brien are still sidelined.

Ollie Cahill and James Keddy are available again and Simon Webb may make the squad but is still carrying an ankle injury.

Rovers skipper Aiden Price is out for the Hoops, as are Derek Pender, Paul Shiels and Eric McGill.

Tommy Barrett should come back into the Rovers squad and Tadhg Purcell should start having rested during the week.

"There's a slight chance Tommy will make it," said Hoops boss Pat Scully. "Tadhg should be okay as we rested him during the week after training on Monday. Aidan has a slight hamstring problem and we can't afford to risk him - it's unfortunate that he's out for the Drogheda game but we'll just get on with it."

Scully added: "We've got three games - three good games - in a week, but obviously we're concentrating on Drogheda United before thinking about Cork City and Bray Wanderers.

"Drogheda are a great club, they've a very good side and they are justifiably favourites for the league. We know this is going to be a tough game for us.

"We can't afford any passengers against them - especially on their own patch. I'll be looking for a really strong performance from everybody."
