Almost 50 applications for the repossession of homes and land were made by various financial institutions at the High Court today.
A total of 10 possession orders were issued by banks including AIB, NIB, Bank of Ireland, ACC, Ulster Bank, Irish Life and Permanent and EBS.
The majority of requests for possession orders were made by Start Mortgages, which offers finance to people who have been unsuccessful in getting a mortgage from the main banks and building societies.
The court heard that one person involved hadn't managed to repay their mortgage since January 2003 and another since September of last year.
Figures show that in the first six months of this year 126 possession orders were issued, showing a significant increase on the previous years.
