Govt announce €18m for broadband in schools

The Government today announced a €18m package to prepare schools for the planned broadband roll-out next year, it emerged today.

The Government today announced a €18m package to prepare schools for the planned broadband roll-out next year, it emerged today.

Education minister Mary Hanafin said the funding for primary and post-primary schools will help upgrade computer network facilities.

Ms Hanafin added: “This presents a real opportunity for every child to get skilled in high-speed digital technology.”

Next year sees the start of a major three-year broadband programme, jointly-funded by the government and industry.
