A rampant Dublin side took the Ulster giants apart in front of their own fans to complete an impressive league campaign, but not quite good enough to secure a place in the Division One final.

Bernard Brogan was in the mood on a glorious afternoon, hitting eight points, six of them from play.

It was in the first half that the Dubs did all the damage, with Brogan scoring seven times and setting up both his side’s goals.

Tyrone did pull back a goal through Colm Cavanagh early in the second half, but had left themselves too much to do.

Tyrone got off to a positive start in front of a sun-drenched crowd of around 10,000, with Sean Cavanagh and Kyle Coney on target in the opening two minutes.

But the Dubs, breaking quickly from a packed defence, targeted Bernard Brogan with virtually every delivery to their quick-moving attack.

The in-form corner forward duly obliged with a breathtaking display of finishing, making every chance count.

He shot seven glorious points in the first half, six of them from play, and set up both of his side’s goals.

Cavanagh did convert three frees and Coney landed a couple of excellent scores, but they found it difficult to break down a well organised Dublin defence

Bernard Brogan dispossessed Aidan Cassidy to set up the opening goal in the 32nd minute for his brother Alan, who had come in as a sub four minutes earlier.

The older brother finished clinically past Johnny Curran to open up a five points lead.

And it got better for the Dubs four minutes later. The Brogan brothers combined for Niall Corkery to blast a second to the top corner of the net in the 36 minutes, and at the break, Pat Gilroy’s side led by 2-10 to 0-7.

Tyrone started the second half with a flourish, and plundered a goal after just 20 seconds, Colm Cavanagh finishing to the net after Martin Penrose had dispossessed goalkeeper Michael Savage.

They tagged on points through Sean Cavanagh and the impressive Peter Harte, but failed to keep the momentum going.

The Leinster men regrouped, and points from David Henry and the Brogan brothers made it a seven points game.

Henry was sent off on a second yellos card seven minutes from the end, but Dublin were never going to be denied.
