There are calls for the immediate publication of the Carty report in the wake of revelations on the opening two days of the Morris Tribunal about the extent of garda corruption.

The Irish Council for Civil Liberties says it is already clear that allegations of garda involvement in serious wrongdoing was recorded by the internal inquiry.

Spokesman Liam Herrick says it is incredible the commissioner has had most of these revelations sitting on his desk for two years.

"These revelations were known to the gardai before now, no action was taken in most circumstances.

"The Minister has the responsibility now to publish this, because the damage being done to the gardai by these allegations dripping out day by day is incredible, it's devastating to the force, to morale and to confidence."
