€3m funding announced for fisheries projects

Marine Minister Pat the Cope Gallagher today announced approval of almost €3m for projects to be funded under the Supporting Measures for Sea Fisheries Development Programme.

Marine Minister Pat the Cope Gallagher today announced approval of almost €3m for projects to be funded under the Supporting Measures for Sea Fisheries Development Programme.

Grant aid of €2,954,828 will be provided to support a total investment of €3,920,405.

"The measures in this programme will put structures in place to both maximise the returns from the fishery resource and ensure a future for the industry through sustainable harvesting. This will help safeguard employment in our peripheral coastal communities where the fishing industry is of vital importance," said Minister Gallagher.

Some 27 projects have been approved today, by the Innovation and Sustainability Projects Approvals Board (ISPAB). The scheme is administered d by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM).
