Baby joy for Little Mo

EastEnders star Kacey Ainsworth has given birth to a baby girl, it emerged today.

The 35-year-old actress – who plays Little Mo in the BBC1 soap – delivered 6lb 12oz Blossom yesterday morning.

Ms Ainsworth was taken to the St John and St Elizabeth Hospital in St John’s Wood, north-west London, at around 3am.

Her agent, Cassie Mayer, said it had been a long labour, but the new mother and her childhood sweetheart, Darren Hales, 37, “couldn’t be happier”.

“They are absolutely delighted. It’s what they have wanted for so long, and now it has happened.”

Both mother and baby Blossom, named after the old English for “lovely”, were said to be doing well.

Other EastEnders stars and staff were told of the baby’s arrival yesterday afternoon, according to a spokeswoman for the programme.

Ms Ainsworth, who lives with her fiance in a converted barn in Hertfordshire, had previously suffered a miscarriage in November 2002.

When she became pregnant again last year she refused to have any baby clothes or toys in the house until they were sure the child could survive.

“We’re taking it scan by scan, enjoying it day by day and trying not to look too far ahead,” she added.

The St John and St Elizabeth Hospital has become a popular venue for the showbusiness world – actresses Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson and Gwyneth Paltrow have also delivered their babies there.
