Under-fire Rangers manager Alex McLeish hopes Ally McCoist can save him from the axe after approaching the Ibrox legend to join the coaching staff and lift team morale.
Chairman David Murray has given McLeish a number of games to improve performances.
The former Scotland and Aberdeen star has vowed to fight on but has approached the former Rangers striker, who is currently working part-time with the Scotland international set-up, to join the coaching staff.
Murray said: “Eck decided to speak to him and that might be something that materialises in the next couple of days.”
Murray has revealed he has already been looking at possible replacements for McLeish but has denied approaching anybody about the role.
A number of top managers have already been linked with the high-profile role including highly-rated Charlton boss Alan Curbishley and Everton manager David Moyes. Murray said: “At all times we are looking at alternatives.”
