Health and Safety Authority investigate fatal mine blast
The Health and Safety Authority is investigating an explosion at a mine in Co. Tipperary that claimed the life of a man in his forties.
The blast happened in an underground shaft at Lisheen Mines at around 6.30pm yesterday evening.
Another man in his fifties was injured and was taken to Cork University Hospital - he is said to be in a stable condition.
The area has been sealed off and a technical examination will be carried out today.
Lisheen Mines is one of the largest producers of zinc concentrates in Europe and employs 372 people.
