Hanafin elected in closely-fought Dun Laoghaire

Outgoing Minister for Education Fianna Fáil’s Mary Hanafin has been elected following the first count in the Dun Laoghaire constituency.

Outgoing Minister for Education Fianna Fáil’s Mary Hanafin has been elected following the first count in the Dun Laoghaire constituency.

Hanafin received 11,884 first preference votes which exceeded the quota of 9,786.

She was the only candidate elected on the first count.

The Progressive Democrat candidate Fiona O’Malley looks to be in trouble having received just 3,959 first preferences votes.
