ASTI committee meets to discuss latest dispute

The standing committee of the Association of Secondary Teachers is meeting this afternoon to discuss its position on supervision and substitution duties.

The standing committee of the Association of Secondary Teachers is meeting this afternoon to discuss its position on supervision and substitution duties.

The meeting follows three days of talks with school managers and further discussions with the Department of Education.

The ASTI and the Government are currently in dispute over the meaning of a settlement the two sides reached on the issue of supervision and substitution.

The teachers believe they are entitled to be paid while on call, even if they are not required to work, but the Government believes the agreement does not entitle on-call teachers to payment.
