The former boss of ESAT Telecom, Denis O’Brien, is to appear before the special Dail Committee that is investigating the rail-signalling project.
The Committee is expected to ask Mr O’Brien questions regarding the costs and safety risks of laying ESAT cables alongside the rail network system.
The phone company made the £20m investment in the project that was designed to enable them to compete with Eircom on a national level.
Three companies expressed an interest to CIE when Irish Rail started its CTC project but it was ESAT’s bid that proved successful.
The Committee is concerned with questions relating to safety and time delays and costs.
It has been revealed that the techniques used to lay the cables may have undermined the rail safety and it has also been suggested that the cable laying delayed, and added to the costs of, the mini-CTC installation.
