The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has called on the parents of Junior Certificate students to find out who their children are celebrating their results with and how they intend on coming home.
Up to 57,000 teenagers are receiving their Junior Cert results today.
The RSA said that teenagers between the ages of 14 and 16 are three times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a collision than those under 14.
The director of Alcohol Action Ireland Fiona Ryan said parents need to talk to their children about drinking.
"We know that a significant number of teenagers are drinking on a weekly basis, and this (number) actually increases as they get older.
"So have the conversation with them, stay safe, and make them aware that even if something happens- they can always call home," she added.
