Ahern and Paisley to visit Battle of the Boyne site

The Taoiseach and the DUP leader Ian Paisley have confirmed that they will visit the site of the Battle of the Boyne in Co Meath on May 11.

The Taoiseach and the DUP leader Ian Paisley have confirmed that they will visit the site of the Battle of the Boyne in Co Meath on May 11.

The visit was first suggested during the historic discussions in Dublin earlier this month when Dr Paisley warmly shook Bertie Ahern's hand for the gathered photographers.

It will come just three days after the DUP leader is sworn in as the new First Minister in the North.

Mr Ahern says he is looking forward to the trip and hopes the site can become an expression of the new relationship between North and South.
