Labour’s Burton attacks Govt over ‘Budget from Hell’
Labour’s Finance Spokesperson Joan Burton hit out at the Government in the Dáil this afternoon in the wake of this afternoon’s supplementary Budget.
Opposition political reaction has been almost uniform in condemning today's measures, which are being seen as some of the toughest to be introduced in recent years.
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan announced higher income tax levies, increases in excise duties and reductions in some social welfare benefits.
Joan Burton described it as the “Budget from Hell”, and said it would be particularly hard on “families in the middle income bracket, who have two or three children”.
