No Rovers exit for Duff

Blackburn have dismissed suggestions they are about to sell midfielder Damien Duff.

Blackburn have dismissed suggestions they are about to sell midfielder Damien Duff.

The Irish international has attracted interest from a number of clubs, both at home and in Europe, following his displays for Rovers and his country at the World Cup finals in the summer.

With the transfer window now open again, speculation over the 29-year-old’s future has started in earnest.

But Blackburn, currently 10th in the Barclaycard Premiership and in the semi-finals of the Worthington Cup, have moved quickly to play down the rumours.

A statement on the club’s official website, www.rovers.co.uk, read: “Regarding Damien, we have had no contact with Inter Milan or any other club for that matter.”

Defender Lucas Neill is set for an examination on the twisted knee injury which forced him off during Saturday’s game at Sunderland.

Although the Australian had to miss the final 16 minutes of the goalless draw at The Stadium of Light because of the knock, Rovers are hopeful he will be fit for the visit of Birmingham this weekend.

Rovers have also not ruled out Neill being available for the second leg of their Worthington Cup tie.

Neill was controversially booked for diving by referee Uriah Rennie at Old Trafford on January 7, ruling him out of the return match next week.

However, the club have asked Rennie to look at the incident again and are awaiting his official reply.

Meanwhile, Rovers have confirmed there has been interest in fringe players John Curtis and Alan Mahon, with Ipswich reported to be tracking former Manchester United trainee Curtis.
