HSE administration jobs to be cut

The Government has announced a scheme to downsize the administration arm of the HSE.

The Government has announced a scheme to downsize the administration arm of the HSE.

Minister Brian Lenihan has told the Dáil during his Budget speech that employees who are "surplus to requirements" would be offered early retirement.

"This will initially be targeted at surplus middle management and administrative staff, but may be extended to other surplus staff," Mr Lenihan said.

"Indeed, I believe it is essential to extend such schemes in a targeted manner to other areas of the public service."

"In this context, the Government has decided to conduct a focused review of public sector numbers to assess whether the resources are being fully deployed and what economies can be made."
