The ISEQ index of Irish shares ended the day on a high note gaining 25.95 points to 89260.09.

The financial heavyweights enjoyed a positive afternoon as AIB edged up 1c to €21.64, Irish Life and Permanent posted gains of 2c to €20.02 while Bank of Ireland managed to inch forward 7c to €16.60. The hardest working share among the financials this afternoon was Anglo Irish Bank soaring by 20c to €15.40 by close.

Elsewhere construction company McInerney ended the day as the ISEQ's biggest gainer with 45c jump to €14.25 per share.

Meanwhile Ryanair lost 10c to €9.50 on foot of news that a publicly-owned airport in the North has been ordered to disclose its secret deal with the airline.

In a landmark case City of Derry Airport has been told to reveal its financial arrangements with Europe's largest low-cost carrier.

The ruling by the Information Tribunal follows a two-year fight by airport owners Derry City Council against a Freedom of Information request.
