A man has gone on trial today accused of sexually assaulting six sisters over a 10-year period.
The 52-year-old man, who can not be identified for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to 62 counts of sexually assaulting the six girls at their home on dates between 1995 and 2005.
Mary Rose Gearty SC, prosecuting, told the jury in opening the case, that the accused man had been in a relationship with the girl’s mother and lived with them.
She said each of the girls will allege that he touched them and some will allege that sex acts took place.
Ms Gearty told the jury they will hear evidence of some of the girls being shown pornographic films as well as allegations of the accused asking them to touch him.
She said it was the prosecution case that the abuse largely occurred in a bedroom, but not always, and in one case happened in a car.
Ms Gearty said some of the girls were aged six-years-old when the alleged abuse started and another up to 10-years-old.
She said the alleged abuse ended for most of the girls at 14-years-old but it continued up to 16-years-old in one case.
She told the jury they would hear evidence from the gardaí that the accused man was interviewed and denied the offences.
The trial continues before Judge Desmond Hogan and a jury of five women and seven men.
