Stablemates George Washington and Horatio Nelson face a fascinating showdown in the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

Stablemates George Washington and Horatio Nelson face a fascinating showdown in the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket.

Aidan O’Brien has declared both colts, favourites for next year’s 2000 Guineas and Derby respectively, for the seven-furlong contest on Saturday.

George Washington, the mount of Kieren Fallon, comes into the race on the back of two impressive Group One wins on his last two starts, while Horatio Nelson impressed many when putting in a gutsy performance to win the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp recently.

Eddie Ahern takes the ride on Horatio Nelson.

Opera Cape, who finished a one-and-a-half length second to Horatio Nelson, reopposes here while Terry Mills’ Close To You will try to step up on his Champagne Stakes dead heat last time.

David Loder, who retires at the end of the season, will be looking for a perfect swansong with Primary while Kevin Ryan runs Palace Episode.

Marcus Tregoning’s unbeaten Vintage Stakes winner Sir Percy, Humungous and Red Clubs complete the line-up.
