The Government faces a battle to pass controversial legislation on stag-hunting in the Dáil today.

The two Independent TDs who usually support the coalition - Michael Lowry and Jackie Healy Rae - are refusing to do so, while the intentions of a number of backbenchers are uncertain.

This stag-hunting legislation has created some controversy, with a group of backbenchers, mainly from North Dublin and Meath, speaking out against it.

Those definitely voting against the Government are former Minister and Tipperary North Indepenent TD Michael Lowry, Kerry South Independent TD Jackie Healy Rae and former Fianna Fáil TD for Wicklow Joe Behan.

Regardless of how today's vote goes, the Government will face more opposition to its animal welfare bill to get over later this week.
