Robert Alner’s charge was runner-up to Grey Abbey in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby on his seasonal debut and would be seeing the famous Haydock fences for the first time.

Alner could also be represented by Spring Grove, a winner over an extended two and a half miles at Cheltenham on his seasonal reappearance.

Jonjo O’Neill’s smart performer Keen Leader, victorious in the Grade Two Tommy Whittle Chase at Haydock Park last season, could reappear in the Grade Two contest.

Yorkshire-based Sue Smith has three to choose from – Royal Emperor, Artic Jack and Chives.

The latter would be having his first start for the yard, having previously been with Henrietta Knight for the same owner, Trevor Hemmings.

The going at Haydock is described as soft.
