Public sector earnings up by 3.1%

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office today show that average weekly earnings in the public sector, not including health, rose by 3.1% in the year to March 2003.

Figures released by the Central Statistics Office today show that average weekly earnings in the public sector, not including health, rose by 3.1% in the year to March 2003.

Meanwhile the index of average earnings rose by 3.3% for the same period.

There were 239,400 employed in the public sector in March 2003, compared to 232,900, an increase of 2.7%. The rise was comprised of an increase of 5.700 in the education sector, a rise of 500 in the regional bodies, and 400 in semi-state companies.
