Thousands of Dads are waking up alone this Father's Day, unable to see their children, according to the Unmarried and Separated Fathers of Ireland.

The group wants to highlight discrimination in family law which sees its members having little or no contact with their children.

The estranged fathers group said it's an abuse of the human rights for the children as well as the father.

Spokesman Donncha Murphy said Father's Day is one of the most difficult times of the year, especially for fathers who are denied access to their children.

He pointed to an increase in suicides among young fathers and appealed to fathers to seek help from his or other similar groups "on this particularly hard day, and on the hard days ahead, in the future."
