The work of a third consultant pathologist at University College Hospital Galway is under review due to concerns about the standard of his work.
The revelation follows the publication of a report yesterday into the work of two other pathologists at the hospital.
The report by the Health Information and Quality Authority detailed the outcome of an investigation into how a 51-year-old Tipperary woman was wrongly given the all-clear for breast cancer.
The investigation found that a significant number of diagnostic errors were made by one of the two pathologists it reviewed, while the second made an error in reading a biopsy at UCHG which contributed to the delay in diagnosing the Tipperary woman.
In relation to the third pathologist, the HSE West says it was informed in December that he had been suspended from the medical register in the UK for 18 months after concerns were raised about errors he made there.
A number of Irish patients are being recalled for follow-up examinations as a result.
