People with relatively low education and a recent history of long-term unemployment are most likely to be out of work, according to new research from the ESRI and the Department of Social and Family Affairs.

Over an 18-month period, 60,000 people on the live register were tracked.

The research also found that women who are married or separated are less likely than single women to return to work.

Figures released earlier this week show our unemployment rate has reached 12.4%.
