A five-year sentence has beenhanded down to a Dublin man who pleaded guilty to raping his friend's 16-year-old daughter in June 1997.
The court heard claims from the accused that he paid the girl's father £20 to indulge in sexual favours.
Justice Paul Carney told the court that he had to take into account a number of factors which made the sentence of five years appear lenient.
Justice Carney noted in court that a garda investigation into the alleged role of the girl's father in this case was ongoing, but said it was a matter that had to be dealt with separately.
