Huddersfield boss Lou Macari is hoping that he can succeed in keeping on-loan winger Peter Ndlovu at the McAlpine Stadium.
Ndlovu joined the Terriers on a month's loan from Birmingham on December 8, his arrival coinciding with a sudden upturn in Huddersfield's fortunes at the foot of Division One.
Ndlovu scored four goals as Town hauled themselves off the bottom of the table and chalked four wins and two draws in the six games since his loan period began.
And Macari is looking for a way to keep the 27-year-old Zimbabwe international in West Yorkshire.
He told the media: "We've got a week or so to try to get something sorted out with Peter - if that is possible because don't forget he is a Birmingham City player.
"He can't play in the FA Cup anyway because they wouldn't give him permission and we wouldn't expect them to".
Huddersfield defender Steve Jenkins is on a month's loan at Birmingham and Macari may discuss a possible swap deal with St Andrews manager Trevor Francis.
"I have made contact and we are exploring that possibility. But when you're not in the driving seat and you can't just go out and buy him because you want to buy him, you have to have to rely on the club that he's with," said Macari.
"I believe Jenkins has done well for them and Peter has done okay for us."
The Terriers are in action at home to Second Division Bristol City in the cup, a match for which Ndlovu will be unavailable. But that should give Macari time to try to tie up either an extension to the loan period or a permanent deal for the player.
He added: "Not always does a new face do the trick but sometimes it works if they want to come and play, and Peter does.
"It's helped bring him back into recognition, because before he came to us he was a Birmingham City reserve player that people had forgotten about. "
