Piers Morgan is in talks to make a chat show in the US.

The 'Britain’s Got Talent' judge, who has interviewed the likes of Simon Cowell and Gordon Brown on his ITV1 show Life Stories, is being tipped as the next Barbara Walters – one of the most famous interviewers in the US.

Morgan told the New York Post: “Barbara Walters has just (semi) retired, and I think there is an opportunity there for me.

“I do one-on-ones, like Barbara Walters. I am not an entertainment talk show, late night kind of (guy). It is more biographical interviews.”

Morgan, 45, who is already a star in the US thanks to his role as judge on 'America’s Got Talent', appeared as a red carpet correspondent for NBC’s Today show at this year’s Oscars.

He said: “My big scoop was I got Sandra Bullock to say to me that she wakes up every morning thinking how lucky she is to have Jesse (James) as a husband. And four days later...”

Bullock’s husband was accused shortly afterwards of cheating on the actress with a tattooed model.

In the UK, Prime Minister Gordon Brown welled up as he talked on Morgan’s chat show about the death of his baby daughter Jennifer.

Former glamour model Katie Price – aka Jordan – wept on the show when she revealed she had been sexually assaulted as a child,

Dannii Minogue broke down when she spoke about her sister Kylie’s breast cancer battle and Cilla Black sobbed when describing the death of Ellen, her premature baby.
