Hundreds of travel passes have been confiscated by the Department of Social Protection in a major crackdown on fraud.

Irish Rail Revenue Protection Officers carried out a blitz of checks on train services around the country, last Saturday, December 7.

More than 300 were taken away for verification.

Those found with out-of-date passes or to be using them in a fraudulent manner had their pass confiscated and were also issued with a fine of up to €100.
