Irish people see political parties as the most corrupt institutions in the country, according to a survey by the Transparency International organisation.
The survey has also found that almost half of people believe corruption will increase in the coming years.
51% say the Government is not doing enough to tackle the problem.
Transparency International, which campaigns against corruption throughout the world, says the findings of the survey show that inquiries like the Mahon Tribunal must be allowed to continue their work unhindered.
It says the Government needs to show that it is serious about tackling corruption.
