Leading criminal figures are expected to attend the funeral of one of Ireland’s biggest drug dealers later today.

Crime boss Martin “Marlo” Hyland’s remains were taken from a funeral home to a church in north Dublin yesterday evening ahead of his burial this morning.

Despite the attendance of some of Ireland’s leading gangland figures at last nights service, the uniformed garda presence was relatively low-key, although it was speculated that undercover detectives mingled with the crowd.

A hearse carrying the 39-year-old drug dealer’s body was adorned with floral tributes as it made its way to Christ The King Church in Cabra.

Wreaths spelt out Grandad and Dad, and one large tribute in yellow flowers read The Budgie.

A large group of Press photographers gathered outside the church as family members and relatives followed in a cortege of six limousines for the ceremony, which got under way at around 5pm.

Parish priest Fr Gregory O’Brien received the remains into the church before conducting the service.

The dead man will be buried at Glasnevin Cemetery in the morning after 10am mass at the church.

He was shot dead at his niece’s house last Tuesday, along with 20-year-old apprentice plumber Anthony Campbell, who happened to be working in the house at the time.

It is believed Hyland was killed by members of his own gang, who also murdered Mr Campbell because he was a potential witness.
