The only prosecutions taken so far in relation to the smoking ban have reportedly been confined to the hospitality sector.

Reports this morning said 37 prosecutions had been taken since the ban was introduced 18 months ago, all of them relating to the pub, hotel and restaurant sector.

The reports said the Health and Safety Authority had carried out thousands of inspections in other workplaces, but any compliance problems were eliminated in co-operation with employers.
