The defeat means that he will miss out in three successive major tournaments for the first time in the 14-year history of the PDC after a clinical display from Jenkins.

The world number five, from Ledbury in Herefordshire, punished a string of missed doubles from Taylor, and finished 59% of his own chances to reach his fourth televised final inside 12 months.

"Terry was the better player, without a shadow of doubt, and his finishing was superb," said Taylor.

"Every time I left him a shot he took it out - he bashed me up."

Jenkins added: "The only players who have stopped me in finals have been Raymond van Barneveld or Phil, so maybe this will be my week!"

Jenkins' display of finishing was bettered by James Wade in the night's first semi-final, with the 24-year-old hitting an incredible 68% of his doubles in a 17-7 rout of Adrian Lewis.

Both players averaged over 101 per three darts, but Wade landed four ton-plus finishes on his way to the final of the tournament for a second successive year.

He lost 18-11 to Taylor 12 months ago, but is in confident mood as he bids for a first major title.

"I knew I had to turn up today and I did that in style," said Wade. "I love this event and I've done the hard work to get to the final, now I can enjoy it."

Tournaments sponsors Stan James made one lucky Blackpool punter's evening, with a £7,000 payout for a £475 double on both Wade and Jenkins being victorious.
