A hotel undergoing a £5m renovation collapsed tonight, the fire brigade said.
Members of the public alerted the fire service shortly after 8pm that the front of Sackville Hotel in Hove, East Sussex, had fallen down.
The hotel, which is not believed to have been occupied, was surrounded by scaffolding.
Firefighters with search and rescue equipment were at the scene tonight, according to East Sussex Fire Brigade.
The three-star hotel is on the seafront in Hove, and was being renovated and upgraded to a five-star hotel.
Five years ago it was used to house homeless people during a council house shortage.
