Over one thousand cancer survivors along with family and friends are to gather in Dublin this evening for the first ever overnight Relay for Life Event to be held in Ireland.
The North Wall Womens Centre in Sherrif Street is hosting the event to coincide with their 21st anniversary and all funds raised will go towards the Irish Cancer Society.
The overnight community celebration will start at 6 o' clock this evening and will run until 8am tomorrow.
Cancer survivor Cathleen O'Neil has survived everyone to come along
“It wasn't until I went to my own relay in America that I was finally able to come to terms with the fact that I had hidden the pain, I had hidden the fear, I had hidden it all,” she admitted.
“I looked at the fright on my children's faces. They'd ask me, ‘how are you mam?’, and ‘how is the chemo,’ and I'd say absolutely fine. An opportunity is there today for people to come along and just walk in silence with the survivors. And if you can't do that come along and cheer them on."
