SVP creates display to highlight what faces the more than 6,000 homeless in Ireland

More than 6,000 people are homeless across Ireland.

The Saint Vincent De Paul Society which has branches nationwide has created an eye catching campaign this week.

The SVP shop on South Great Georges Street in Dublin has transformed into a 'Hidden Homeless' estate agency which displays attention grabbing images of couches, hotel rooms and other poor quality dwellings.

The initiative is designed to draw attention to the housing and homeless crisis and the lack of social housing in Ireland.

John Mark McCafferty from SVP describes what people passing the display will see.

He said: "What people are looking at is a series of adverts like you would see in any estate agent, but the difference is those images are very much of a damp, cold private sector unit.

"Small units, houses that are dank and dark, hotel rooms, sofas. They are telling the reality of the experience of so many people across Ireland."
