Sniffer dog helps Revenue seize €19k in crime proceeds

Officers from Revenue's Customs Services at Cork Airport have seized more than €19,000 in cash with the aid of one of their sniffer dogs.

The cash was discovered two separate seizures when the sniffer dog, Harvey, alerted officers to luggage belonging to two Irish nationals who were about to board a flight to Malaga.

The sums of €9,000 and €10,120 were seized by Revenue and the owners of the luggage, aged 43 and 35, appeared in Mallow District Court this morning.

Officers were granted a three-month detention order in respect of the two cash seizures by Judge Timothy Lucey in order to carry out further investigations.
