Thousands of litres of toxic diesel sludge has been discovered in Co Monaghan.

Thousands of litres of toxic diesel sludge has been discovered in Co Monaghan.

Three thousand litres of the poisonous waste was discovered at Knocknaneen Orange Hall, Mullyash, near Castleblayney.

The substance is a by-product of illegal oil laundering and is extremely harmful to the environment.

Monaghan County Council has dealt with the discovery, and gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, especially about vehicles that may have been used to dump the sludge, to contact them at Castleblayney garda station on 042 974 0668.
