Belfast City Council is taking legal action to prevent a lap-dancing club from opening in the city.

If the opening does go ahead tonight, members of Ian Paisley's Free Presbyterian church are expected to picket the premises.

Jerome Brennan, who already operates lap dancing clubs in Dundalk and Limerick, was planning to open tonight in Belfast's university area.

Peter O'Reilly, the SDLP Chairman of the Health and Environmental Services committee, says however that it does not have the proper licence and the council's lawyers have been instructed to uphold the law.
