A Status Orange* rainfall warning is in place for the west and north west of the country today.
Met Éireann warned there would be spells of heavy rain with falls of up to 60mm across Donegal, Galway, Mayo and Sligo until around 3pm.
Meanwhile, power has been restored to more than 1,500 properties this morning. ESB networks said crews were still working to restore supply to just under 700 households.
Homes in Dublin, Cork, Donegal, Offaly, Kildare, Clare and Meath have been affected.

Today will continue mild, windy and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, Met Éireann has forecasted.
The rain will become persistent in the west early this afternoon and will spread eastwards to all areas through the afternoon.
Highest temperatures will be 13C to 15C with fresh to strong southwest winds.
Tonight will continue windy and cloudy with further spells of rain. The rain will clear eastwards later in the night with clear spells and scattered showers.
The strong south to southwest winds will veer westerly overnight and will continue strong in the west and north. Lowest temperatures of 4C to 7C are forecast.
