Two people have been arrested as a result of Garda drink-driving checkpoints in Waterford and Thurles.

Two people have been arrested as a result of Garda drink-driving checkpoints in Waterford and Thurles.

So far this year, 152 people have been arrested for drink driving, in comparison to 148 in the same period in 2013.

In Waterford, 612 vehicles passed through the checkpoints, with almost 400 breath tests conducted and one person was detained.

In Thurles, 149 vehicles went through, with 102 drivers breath tested, with one arrest.

Checkpoints were also mounted overnight in Killarney and Newcastlewest, but no drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
