TUI: Cuts and criticism destroying teacher morale

The Education Minister Ruairi Quinn will address primary school teachers this morning – at a time when their union says they’re more demoralised and disheartened than ever before.

Ruairi Quinn is attending two of the three national conferences being held by teachers today.

He will address the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation later, before going to the secondary teachers’ union the ASTI this afternoon.

The TUI meanwhile are also meeting in Kilkenny.

Last night, the President of the INTO, Brendan O’Sullivan, said successive cuts, as well as constant criticism, were destroying morale among teachers.
